# The story

> The mark is a D and a C, and a 0 and a 1. Black and white hold every colour; each Digital Worker is one of them.

**The mark is two readings at once.** It is a D and a C — Digital Crew — and it is a 0 and a 1.

**Black and white are all colours and no colour.** Mix every colour of light and you get white; mix every pigment and you get black. That is the crew: **each Digital Worker is one colour**, and the crew as a whole is all of them mixed. Pushed to the extreme, the mix becomes black or white. **Break that black or white and each agent's identity comes out** — Sophie's sky, Claire's violet, Max's amber, Camille's pink, Kate's emerald, André's indigo.

**So the platform is neutral, and colour belongs to the agents and to the people using it.** The public site already gives every agent its colour. In the product, people set their own primary colour in Settings and put their own logo in the sidebar. The platform stays a quiet, customisable ground where each workspace adds its own touch.

What this means when you design:
- **Build the shell in ink.** Surfaces, text, borders and structure use the neutral tokens (`background`, `foreground`, `muted`, `border`). A hue never decorates the frame.
- **Colour always means something**: an agent (`dc-*`, the agent accents), the user's choice (`primary`), or a state (`destructive`, the status pills). If a colour means none of these, it is noise.
- **Never hard-code the primary.** Use `primary`, `ring` and `sidebar-primary`, so the colour a person picks flows everywhere and the derived shades keep text readable.
- **One agent, one colour.** Never reuse an agent's colour for another agent, a status or decoration, and never let one agent's colour stand for the whole crew. The crew is shown in ink, or as its colours side by side, breaking out of the ink.
- **The mark stays black or white.** It is where all the colours meet, so it never takes a tint.
- **Everything must survive customisation.** A screen has to work with any primary colour and any workspace logo. Don't pair `primary` with fixed brand hues that could clash with what a person picks.

Crew OS, the home of the whole crew, is therefore ink. Max is one agent's product and carries a colour of its own — orange by default — until its people choose theirs.
